The design of this second story addition and complete remodel to an existing home near the Mulholland Drive view corridor is based on view and sun mitigation. On the day of our first site visit, the late morning temperature reached 114 degrees. In order to create a more livable environment for the original home, which utilize no shading elements, we add volumes above which extend into bris soleils. These fins mitigate the heat gain while giving the second story mass a lighter appearance as the volumes appear to dematerialize.
