From the AIA jury -

"...impressed that the use of less detail makes the space - which is very clean and serene - feel larger. They also love the idea of a soaking space with a view of the outdoors."

The project began as an experiment in the combination of simple materials with light, and their ability to lend depth and ethereal qualities to a small space. The result is the transformation of a utilitarian room into a luxurious environment that reflects the mood of the day in a subdued, yet continually shifting, manner.

PHASE I - An extensive interior remodel was completed for this single story bungalow house in an intimate neighborhood in Malibu. The space was completely rearranged, placing the open bedroom and bathroom in a position to take advantage of breathtaking ocean views. The master suite was also reconfigured with a vaulted ceiling and expansive glass. Material choices lend depth and warmth throughout the space.

Further details such as the curbless epoxy shower enclosure, 4'x8' full height pocket door, clerestory glass separation between shower and bedroom, custom designed and fabricated sink, hidden window frame and geometric integrated heating demonstrate the pervasive and thorough attention to detail required of a project with such strict area requirements.
